I was very sad this morning to hear of the death of former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland, who I was fortunate enough to photograph back in 2008. This was when he was in town with Velvet Revolver, touring their second album Libertad. The band were on fire that night, Scott in particular. I wasn't a very good photographer back then, but managed to get plenty of decent pics of Scott as we such a great subject - I've dug out a few to share here, including the moment when he sang right down my lens. I was so excited when that happened!
I was also lucky enough to interview Scott over the phone a few months later, when he was promoting his solo album 'Happy'. Again, he was a brilliant person to talk to. I remember my final question was simply 'are you happy?' He answered 'Yes, right now I'm pretty happy.' I know he's had plenty of troubles, but I hope he was happy more often than not.
My thoughts are with his family - thanks to Scott for producing some great music and being the subject of what are still some of my favourite photos I've ever taken of a musician.
